Privacy policy

This policy describes the static site that publishes the car loan interest deduction calculator. It was last updated on October 31, 2026.

What the site stores

The site is a set of static files. It has no user accounts and no server that receives your tax figures. Amounts you type into the calculator, including income and interest, stay in the page on your device. They are not written to an account and they are not placed in the page address.

VIN lookups

If you use the VIN check, your browser sends the VIN directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vPIC API at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov. The request is made with a no-referrer policy. This site does not receive a copy of the VIN and does not store it in the browser beyond the field you typed. NHTSA receives the VIN because that is how its decoder works. Read NHTSA’s own privacy information before you submit a VIN you do not want a federal vehicle database to process. Do not use the tool on a shared computer if that bothers you. You can skip it and read the vehicle label instead.

Advertising

The ad slots are controlled by src/config/site.ts. While the AdSense publisher ID is empty, pages do not load Google’s advertising script. If a publisher ID is added, pages will load adsbygoogle.js and Google may use cookies or similar identifiers to show and measure ads, including on signed-in Google services, under Google’s policies. You can control ad cookies in your browser and through Google’s ad settings. Reserved “Advertisement” boxes that appear before an ID is set are layout placeholders, not ads served by a network.

Contact

If you email the address on the contact page, that message is processed like ordinary email by whatever provider the publisher uses. Do not include a VIN, a Social Security number, or a loan account number.
